How to Recover Photos & Videos From Encrypted Drives

Easiest Way to Recover Photos and Videos from Encrypted Drive.

To keep data safe almost all versions of Windows OS provide a reliable and trusted mechanism. With the help of the in-built tool, BitLocker, you can easily encrypt your drive. This is a secure way to protect your sensitive data. However, if you lose photos & videos saved on the encrypted drive things get worse as you cannot access them.

In this article, we will show you how to unlock Bitlocker encrypted drives while recovering deleted or lost photos and videos.

What is Encrypted Drive?

Included with Windows, BitLocker is designed to protect data by providing encryption for entire volumes. Furthermore, to avoid access by an unauthorized person, it keeps personal photos and other data protected with a password.

Losing photos/videos from your encrypted drive can be a nightmare. However, this doesn’t mean nothing can be done. Using a specialized recovery tool like Photos Recovery, you can easily restore lost pictures and video from an encrypted drive.

Methods for Encrypted SD Card Recovery

A. When you know the Password

If you know the BitLocker password of your encrypted drive, using a professional recovery tool like Photos Recovery to restore deleted photos and videos is the right choice.

Steps to recover photos & videos from the encrypted drive, using Photos Recovery software:

1. Download and install Photos Recovery software on Windows.

2. Launch the recovery tool.

3. Select the locked drive for scanning, it will prompt you to enter the BitLocker password.

4. Enter the BitLocker password and wait for the software to scan the drive to list down recoverable photos and videos.
5. Preview photos and videos and select the ones you want to recover.
6. Select the location to save the selected photos and videos.

Note : Make sure you are not saving the pictures and videos on the same drive from which you are recovering data. Doing so reduces the chances of data recovery.

7. Hit the Recover button and wait for the process to finish.

B. Recovering Photos and Videos from encrypted drive when you don’t remember the Password

If you no longer remember the BitLocker password, you can decrypt the encrypted drive using the BitLocker Recovery Key that Windows prompts to back up when you encrypt the drive. Using it without having the decryption key, you can unlock the drive and restore lost photos & videos.

BitLocker Recovery Key is a unique 48-digit numerical password generated automatically when BitLocker encryption is activated. This key helps unlock the encrypted drive when the PIN or password is forgotten.

How to Unlock Encrypted Drive Using the Recovery Key?

1. Double click the encrypted drive.
2. You will now get a window that asks to enter the password. Since you don’t have one-click “More Options”.

  • Click “Enter Recovery Key”

  • Enter the unique 48-digit BitLocker Recovery Key. Click “Unlock”.

You will now be able to access the encrypted drive and scan it to recover lost or deleted photos using Photos Recovery software.
