Here’s Why Your Lenovo Screen Dim Brightness Won’t Adjust! {Fixes Inside}

Isn’t it frustrating when you are trying to adjust the dim brightness of your laptop, but the brightness won’t adjust? Several users have complained about the same. Some believe that it is a hardware issue with the display panel, while others think of it as a software bug. Either way, no one knows how to fix the error.

Well, that is where this post steps up! In this blog, let’s try to identify the causes of Lenovo laptop screen dim issues and how you can get rid of them.

What Causes Lenovo Laptop Screen Dim Issue?

Well, multiple factors contribute to the error. You can never rule out the possibility of a hardware malfunction, but blaming the panel completely might not be an ideal approach.

The dim brightness of any Windows PC screen can result from malfunctioned configuration and faulty software. Some of the reasons why you are facing issues with adjusting the brightness of your screen can be –

  1. Faulty registry values
  2. Display driver issues
  3. Brightness control error
  4. Hardware problems.

So far, these 4 factors have been identified as potential issues by the users. The issue is severe considering there are multiple discussions running on Lenovo’s forum. Many users have brought the dim brightness issue to light (pun intended).

You can find the entire thread here to learn more about the discussion.

How to Fix the Lenovo Screen Brightness Dim Issue?

Considering the issue that may be bothering your system, we have a few basic fixes that you can try. However, before we jump into the fixes, make sure that –

  • Completely charge your laptop or connect it to a power source. This ensures that the dim brightness is not due to a lack of power.
  • While using an external monitor ensure the Lenovo monitor brightness is not locked mistakenly. If that is the case, using the available brightness hotkeys won’t work, and you will be stuck with the dim brightness on your screen.
  • The keyboard you are using is functional and there are no issues. If the keys are not working correctly, adjusting the brightness may be difficult.

When all the above-mentioned points are OK on your PC, try the following fixes, as they may help.

Fix 1 – Update the Display Drivers

The first thing you should do is update your display drivers. These are your graphics drivers, also known as display adapters. These are the components responsible for your display.

To update these drivers, you have two options –

1. Open the Device Manager→ Go to the Display Adpaters→ Choose the graphics driver you want to update→ Right-click on it t find the update driver option.

OR

2. Download Advanced Driver Updater→ Run a Quick Scan→ Click on Update All to update outdated drivers in minutes.

Option 2 appears to be a better and easier choice considering it does the job much faster and better. The first option becomes a lengthy process if you have more than one driver to update at a time.

Fix 2 – Use the Brightness Up Key While Booting Up

If you are struggling with adjusting the brightness of your PC, here is a quick fix you can try.

Step 1 – Press the power button of your laptop for 10 seconds to shut it down completely.
Step 2 – Start the PC again by using the power key.
Step 3 – When the PC boots up, press and hold the brightness up button
Step 4 – Keep holding the button unless the PC boots up completely.

You may observe that the brightness is now better on the screen and is no more dim. This will also unlock your brightness toggle if there is any issue.

Fix 3 – Change Registry Values (Advanced)

Though it is a sure-shot fix for the dim brightness issue in Lenovo laptops, it is recommended that you only perform it if you are fluent with the PC. That is because registries are system components, and you should never play around with them unless you have the knowledge. Make sure you follow the below steps correctly and with due diligence.

Step 1 – Press Win + R to bring up the Run search utility.
Step 2 – Use the command Regedit to open the registry editor on Windows.

Step 3 – In the registry editor, use the address bar and navigate to the following registry address –

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000

Step 4 – Find the file FeatureTestControl in the registry list and double-click on it to edit.

Step 5 – In the opened editor, change the value to F048 and save.

Once you have made the changes, restart your computer and check if the brightness is working again. This should do the job for you as it is a tried and tested method, just like others.

Say Bye-Bye To Dim Brightness Won’t Adjust Issues on Lenovo Laptop!

These are the ultimate fixes you can try to fix the brightness issues on your Lenovo devices. Remember that updating your drivers is the most effective and easiest way to get results. Hence download the Advanced Driver Updater on priority.
