Mouse Lag for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War – FIXED!

Is your mouse stuck while playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War? You are not alone, as thousands of users have reported the same issue. The problem is quite strange, considering the mouse works completely fine outside the game but starts lagging when used during.

Some believe it is due to in-game mouse settings and sensitivity, while others have shared that it is an issue with the device drivers. The core reasons, as understood based on user experiences, include –

  • Outdated mouse drivers.
  • Issues with game settings & configuration.
  • Hardware issues and running out of resources.

Thankfully, all these problems can be easily resolved.

In this post, let us look at some fixes that may help you resolve the mouse lag issue or Call of Duty in no time. Let’s jump straight to the fixes, then!

Ways to Fix Mouse Lag While Playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Fix #1 – Adjust In-Game Settings for the Mouse

While playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, there are multiple options that you can customize. Keyboard and mouse settings are also available to be tweaked.

Step 1-  Launch the game, and open its Settings.
Step 2 – Select the Keyboard and Mouse tab from the opened menu.

Step 3 – Set the Mouse Filtering and Mouse Acceleration values to 0.

Step 4 – Now, Change the Monitor Distance Coefficient value to  1.78.
Step 5 – Ensure Mouse Smoothing is Disabled.

Step 6 – Set Sensitivity bar values as you find fit.

Use this setting, and you may find the mouse lag issue resolved with your PC. If not, try the next fix.

Fix #2 – Set the Game Priority to High

Sometimes the issue arises when your PC lacks resources. The ideal way that your PC handles the lack of resources is by delegating resources to higher-priority tasks. If you are running a game and facing mouse lags or any delays in the experience, simply change the game priority to experience better performance.

Step 1- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager.

Step 2 – In the Task Manager, locate the Call of Duty process running.
Step 3 – Right-click on the process, and you may find an option that says Set priority.
Step 4 – Click on it and set it to high.

Step 5 – Check the game performance to analyze the differences.

Finally, ensure you do not have any heavy applications running in the background while playing the game, as it may hamper your experience and cause mouse lags in Black Ops Cold War.

Fix #3 – Disable Power Saving Mode for USB

Many users have reported that the lag appears when they try to pick up the game from where they left off. The issue often occurs due to the connectivity issue and the power management settings of the device. Hence, disabling the USB power saver mode might help.

Step 1 – Press Windows + R and use Command Devmgmt. msc to open the Device Manager.

Step 2 – In the Device Manager, go to the Universal Serial Bus Controller and spot the USB port your mouse is using.

Step 3 – Right click on it to open its properties and navigate to the Power Management tab.

Step 4 – Make sure that the Allow power saving… option is unchecked.
Step 5 – If not, uncheck it manually and save the changes.

This will allow your connected mouse to stay active even if you decide to put your device to sleep to take a pause. This means your mouse and the game are back in action from where you left off as soon as you are back.

Fix #4 – Check Windows Mouse Configuration

The issue is not always related to the game configuration. Sometimes you may be required to check the mouse configuration in general. Thankfully, Windows has a dedicated settings option to keep your device in an optimal state.

Step 1- Press Windows + R to open the run search.
Step 2 – Use the command “control” to open the Control Panel in the Run search box.

Step 3 – Ensure the view is set to icons and not Category in the Control Panel.
Step 4 – Click on the dedicated icon for the mouse.
Step 5 – A pop-up window appears that has all the basic and advanced controls to configure your mouse cursor

Now in the pointer settings and other configurations, ensure that all the settings are optimal. If you find it confusing, refer to the default settings.

Fix #5 – Update Mouse Drivers

If none of the settings made a difference, you must check if the mouse drivers require an update. But identifying the need for drivers and the latest versions can be tricky in Windows.
