However, the error is not limited to such problems. Many users have shared that these vertical lines on computer screens keep appearing and disappearing. Sometimes they can only be seen using a dedicated application, while sometimes, they appear permanently.
In both cases, the user’s experience is hampered. If you struggle with vertical lines on your desktop screen and can not understand what’s causing it, this post is for you!
By the end of this blog, you will be able to resolve the vertical lines issue on your PC as we discuss multiple ways to fix the same. Without further ado, let’s begin!
There are multiple reasons why your PC may be experiencing display-related issues. These errors include –
In all cases, you may experience vertical lines on your monitor screen. If your monitor is under warranty and you doubt there’s an internal error in the hardware, feel free to contact the service center.
However, if your service advisor says there’s nothing wrong with the panel, move on to the next section to find the fixes you can apply.
Before jumping to the major fixes, ensure you have performed the basic checks to see if the issue is resolved. The basic fixes include –
Once you finish the basic checks, it’s time to move to the advanced methods.
The first thing that comes to mind whenever there’s an issue with the display is your PC’s GPU or graphics. In case you are using an older device, there are chances that the graphics driver is causing the issue. To resolve this problem, you can update the graphics driver on your PC.
If you know how to update drivers on your Windows PC, you already know how typical it is to go through the Device Manager and fetch updates manually. Hence, we recommend you use Advanced Driver Updater. A tool that knows how to update drivers better than any other.
All you have to do is –
Step 1 – Download Advanced Driver Updater on your PC using the button below
Step 2 – Install the tool on your PC and run it.
Step 3 – Click the Start Scan Now button on the home screen to begin scanning.
Step 4 – This scan will go through all the installed drivers to find the outdated ones.
Step 5 – After the scan, you will have a list of outdated drivers.
Step 6 – Click on Update All to update these drivers.
The application allows you to find, fetch and install the updates for all your PC drivers in just a few clicks, including your graphics drivers.
Sometimes the lines appear due to issues with the screen resolution settings on Windows. Try playing around with the settings to check if the lines are consistent in all the modes, or is it just the current configuration causing the issue,
Here’s how you do it –
Step 1 – Go to your Desktop and right-click to find Display Settings in the quick-access menu.
Step 2 – You may find Display Resolution settings when you click the drop-down menu in the opened settings.
Step 3 – Click on the drop-down menu and try the configurations individually to see where the lines disappear.
Step 4 – Save the configuration where you no longer see the vertical lines on your screen.
If the vertical lines flickering issue on the screen are caused due to a running application or a program, performing a clean boot is the best way to handle them. It will clean all the running services and give your PC a fresh start.
Here’s how you do it –
Step 1 – Use the Run search box (Win+R) and use the command msconfig in the search box.
Step 2 – In the top bar, find the services tab and click on it.
Step 3 – First mark the box that says Hide all Microsoft services and then click on Disable all option on the right side.
Step 4 – Once you are done with that, change the tab to startup where you may find an option to open the task manager.
Step 5 – Now, similarly as you did in the previous method, disable the startup application from Chrome or any other app you believe is creating an issue.
Step 6 – Once you are done with all the steps, simply save the changes and reboot the PC.
This way, you can remove the vertical lines that appear on your PC. Remember that these advanced fixes will only work if you have already gone through the basics. Hence always ensure you have tried everything before making any changes to the system settings.
That will be all for this blog. Thanks for reading. Let us know in the comments if you have any other suggestions to fix the vertical lines on computer screen errors. Let’s make the comments section productive!
